Silver Key Ring With Tribal Mask From PNG

This sterling silver key ring has an exquisitely detailed tribal mask from the Sepik area of Papua New Guinea. The keyring has the dimensions: 52mm x 17mm and the mask has beautiful shell details. The Sepik masks are actually spirit masks where each mask represents a spirit of the people. The people wear these masks during ceremonies so that they may invoke the spirits to join them. The masks are hand made by the people out of mud and clay and then detailed with materials such as shells and grass to create different appearances and spirits. Before ceremonies the masks are covered with flowers, leaves and feathers and once the ceremony nis finished the masks are stripped to its barest details once more and hung in the owners home.
